Our Mission

Keep Wrington as Wrington (KWAW) is a community-driven initiative committed to preserving the unique character, heritage, and sustainability of Wrington. Our mission is to safeguard the village from inappropriate development that threatens its rural charm and to ensure that any growth aligns with the needs and desires of our community.​

Our Origins and Achievements

KWAW was established in response to increasing concerns about large-scale development proposals that could significantly impact our village's landscape and infrastructure. One notable challenge was the proposed development at Butts Batch.​

Butts Batch Development Proposal

Approximately five years ago, developers submitted an outline planning application for the residential development of land west of Butts Batch, proposing up to 61 dwellings with access from Butts Batch. The site encompassed 4.56 hectares of agricultural land located directly west of Butts Batch, the main transport vein into the village from the south. ​ 

The proposal raised significant concerns among residents, including: 

Impact on Heritage and Infrastructure: The development's proximity to heritage assets and the lack of adequate infrastructure to support such a large-scale project were major issues.​ 

Environmental Concerns: The area supports a variety of wildlife and biodiversity. Development would destroy essential habitats, causing long-term ecological damage.​

Traffic and Safety Issues: Additional housing would bring more vehicles to Wrington's already narrow and busy roads, making conditions even more dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists.​

KWAW, alongside other local groups, actively opposed the Butts Batch development.               Our collective efforts contributed to the eventual rejection of the   proposal, preserving the  integrity of our village.​

Our Ongoing Commitment

KWAW continues to monitor and respond to development proposals that may affect Wrington. We engage with local authorities, provide residents with information and resources, and advocate for sustainable development that respects our village's character.​
